Where are you walking?

Where are you walking?

In the world we have choices as to what is right and wrong.  Our standard should be based upon the Bible, God’s inspired word, not the teachings of man or an institution created by men.  This study from God’s word will focus on clear scriptures that reveal to the reader what God wants and what God does not want for man.  The choice is ours if we will follow God’s way or man’s way.

1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

3 And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

4 The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish. [Ps 1 NASB]

Those who claim to be followers of God live in the world but are not to be of the world.

In this first of 150 Psalms in the Bible, there is a contrast of the righteous and the wicked.  There is a danger when one is walking, standing or sitting with the wicked.  The wicked are all those who choose to not follow the word of God as revealed in the Holy Scriptures.  Those who choose to reject the word of God are those who follow the way of the world, the standard of life determined by human institutions and not the revelation of God.

The prophet Jeremiah writes about people who have become so far away from God that they no longer blush over sin.

13 “For from the least of them even to the greatest of them,
Everyone is greedy for gain,
And from the prophet even to the priest
Everyone deals falsely.

14 “And they have healed the brokenness of My people superficially,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
But there is no peace.

15 “Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done?
They were not even ashamed at all;
They did not even know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time that I punish them,
They shall be cast down,” says the Lord. [Jer 6:13-15 NASB]

8 “How can you say, ‘We are wise,
And the law of the Lord is with us’?
But behold, the lying pen of the scribes
Has made it into a lie.

9 “The wise men are put to shame,
They are dismayed and caught;
Behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord,
And what kind of wisdom do they have?

10 “Therefore I will give their wives to others,
Their fields to new owners;
Because from the least even to the greatest
Everyone is greedy for gain;
From the prophet even to the priest
Everyone practices deceit.

11 “And they heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially,
Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
But there is no peace.

12 “Were they ashamed because of the abomination they had done?
They certainly were not ashamed,
And they did not know how to blush;
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time of their punishment they shall be brought down,”
Declares the Lord. [Jer 8:8-12 NASB]

There are two directions or standards we can live within.  One is the teachings of God as revealed in the Scriptures. The other is the concepts derived from human thinking and reason.  Sadly, when left to human thinking, human nature, the desires of the flesh and of ego, mankind will fail and not be able to live a life right with God and the principles of right living revealed in the Scriptures.

12 There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death. [Prov 14:12 NASB]

34 Righteousness exalts a nation,
But sin is a disgrace to any people. [Prov 14:34 NASB]

Man corrupts that which is good and changes the values or standard he deems important.  As a result, he will be doomed to suffer the consequences.

20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;,
Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;,
Who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes,
And clever in their own sight!

22 Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine,
And valiant men in mixing strong drink;

23 Who justify the wicked for a bribe,
And take away the rights of the ones who are in the right!

24 Therefore, as a tongue of fire consumes stubble,
And dry grass collapses into the flame,,
So their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust;,
For they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts,
And despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

25 On this account the anger of the Lord has burned against His people,
And He has stretched out His hand against them and struck them down,
And the mountains quaked; and their corpses lay like refuse in the middle of the streets.,
For all this His anger is not spent,,
But His hand is still stretched out. [Isa 5:20-25 NASB]

This does not change God, His word or His warnings.  The result of refusing to follow God’s word and learn from His revelation on how to live a right and good life will be judgment.

1 Then He cried out in my hearing with a loud voice saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with his destroying weapon in his hand.”

2 And behold, six men came from the direction of the upper gate which faces north, each with his shattering weapon in his hand; and among them was a certain man clothed in linen with a writing case at his loins. And they went in and stood beside the bronze altar.

3 Then the glory of the God of Israel went up from the cherub on which it had been, to the threshold of the temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen at whose loins was the writing case.

4 And the Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, even through the midst of Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.”

5 But to the others He said in my hearing, “Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity, and do not spare.

6 “Utterly slay old men, young men, maidens, little children, and women, but do not touch any man on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.” So they started with the elders who were before the temple.

7 And He said to them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go out!” Thus they went out and struck down the people in the city.

8 Then it came about as they were striking and I alone was left, that I fell on my face and cried out saying, “Alas, Lord God! Art Thou destroying the whole remnant of Israel by pouring out Thy wrath on Jerusalem?”

9 Then He said to me, “The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is very, very great, and the land is filled with blood, and the city is full of perversion; for they say, ‘The Lord has forsaken the land, and the Lord does not see!’

10 “But as for Me, My eye will have no pity nor shall I spare, but I shall bring their conduct upon their heads.”

11 Then behold, the man clothed in linen at whose loins was the writing case reported, saying, “I have done just as Thou hast commanded me.” [Ezek 9 NASB]

We, as God’s creation, have a choice:  to live a life that honors and gives glory to God or a life focused only on self and the created things.  The following scriptures tell us plainly God’s teaching on some of the concepts facing mankind.  We can accept or reject God; but it is clear what God will do to those who reject His will.

19 ‘Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her menstrual impurity.

20 ‘And you shall not have intercourse with your neighbor’s wife, to be defiled with her.

21 ‘Neither shall you give any of your offspring to offer them to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God; I am the Lord.

22 ‘You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination.

23 ‘Also you shall not have intercourse with any animal to be defiled with it, nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it; it is a perversion.

24 ‘Do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled.

25 ‘For the land has become defiled, therefore I have visited its punishment upon it, so the land has spewed out its inhabitants.

26 ‘But as for you, you are to keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native, nor the alien who sojourns among you

27 (for the men of the land who have been before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become defiled);

28 so that the land may not spew you out, should you defile it, as it has spewed out the nation which has been before you.

29 ‘For whoever does any of these abominations, those persons who do so shall be cut off from among their people.

30 ‘Thus you are to keep My charge, that you do not practice any of the abominable customs which have been practiced before you, so as not to defile yourselves with them; I am the Lord your God.’” [Lev 18:19-30 NASB]

The biblical principle is clear, an ungodly nation will be judged, by God.  Without God a nation is  without hope.

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

19 because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing to be wise, they became fools,

23 and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them.

25 For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,

30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,

31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;

32 and, although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. [Rom 1:18-32 NASB]

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

11 And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.
[1 Cor 6:9-11 NASB]

2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;

4 that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

5 not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

6 and that no man transgress and defraud his brother in the matter because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you before and solemnly warned you.

7 For God has not called us for the purpose of impurity, but in sanctification.

8 Consequently, he who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you. [1 Thess 4:2-8 NASB]

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.

19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,

20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,

21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

26 Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.
[Gal 5:16-26 NASB]

1 Let love of the brethren continue.

2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.

3 Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.

4 Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

5 Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,”

6 so that we confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid.
What shall man do to me?” [Heb 13:1-6 NASB]

1 Simon Peter, a bond-servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have received a faith of the same kind as ours, by the righteousness of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.

5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge;

6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness;

7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.

8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble;

11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you. [2 Peter 1:1-11 NASB]

15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth. [2 Tim 2:15 NASB]

1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come.

2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,

3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good,

4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; and avoid such men as these.

6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses,

7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

8 And just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men of depraved mind, rejected as regards the faith.

9 But they will not make further progress; for their folly will be obvious to all, as also that of those two came to be.

10 But you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,

11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord delivered me!

12 And indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them;

15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

17 that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. [2 Tim 3; 1-17 NASB]

The answer to our walk in difficult times is to trust and obey God’s Abiding Word.  For God knows the way of the righteous and has told us the end of those who follow the way of sinners.

The choice is yours, life with God or judgment from God.

Mercy – A Building Block of Faith

Mercy – A Building Block of Faith – Jude 20–25

One day while I was making my chaplain rounds in the hospital, a doctor asked me to help him understand the concept of forgiveness.  Forgiving and actually being able to forget are so hard to do.  So I thought of God’s Mercy as it relates to me being forgiven.

[Jude 20-25 NIV]

[20] But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.

[21] Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

[22] Be merciful to those who doubt;

[23] snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear-hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.

[24] To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy-

[25] to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

As A Christian:

Forgiveness involves mercy and Jude opens my mind to the idea of exhibiting mercy.

  • I FORGIVE because I have been forgiven.
  • I LOVE because I am loved.
  • I SHOW MERCY because I have been shown mercy.

There is the cry for mercy manifested in salvation from sin, fellowship with the Holy Spirit and the realization of a new creation.

[Ps 51:1-4 &10-13]

[1] Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.

[2] Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

[3] For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

[4] Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak

[10] Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

[11] Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.

[12] Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

[13] Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.

Building Up A Holy Faith:

This is a faith that is not in mankind, nor things, or myself.  All these will fail at some time in my live.  The result will be anxiety, frustration, depression and guilt, all symptoms of a faith in those things of this world.  This is not a Holy Faith but a faith that is an empty and worthless faith.

Not so with God.  God will never fail me.  A faith in God is a Holy Faith which is complete, full, total, of great value, and priceless.  The reason is that first God is the focus of this faith and second God offers eternal rewards that are beyond the ever-changing conditions of this creation.  Thus that which makes my faith Holy is not me, but is determined by the object of that faith, God.

Building Upon The Rock:

Jesus Christ is the rock of my salvation.  His banner over me is love.  This banner or protection is seen in the Cross.  It is through the event of His Cross, His Death, Burial and Resurrection that I receive His Love, the Mercy of God.  Without the foundation rock of the Cross I will receive what I deserve, the Justice of God.  However, through this event, the Cross, I can build a new life upon the Mercy and Love found in Christ.

As a recipient of Gods’ Mercy I realize that God through His Spirit is now in me as a comforter, a helper, a guide, working with me and for me.  This knowledge helps me to maintain my faith, allowing self to surrender to Christ who brought me from sin and opened the way to receiving the Mercy of God.

God’s mercy was in Christ on the cross working, as God’s Justice was being spent upon Christ as He showed me how much He really loved me.  I can choose to receive mercy or justice.  The question comes down to what is of more value.  Jesus said, “For whoever wishes to save his life shall lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s shall save it.” [Mark 8:35-36 NAS]

Mercy granted will create a new creature that will obey the commandments of God and proclaim the great joy found.  When Jesus went about healing people they went away praising God and spreading the goods news to others.

As one who has received mercy, healed, saved from my sins, I need to become obedient to God’s commands. Through my faith in what I have from God, I will extend mercy to others.  I will learn to forgive, to share salvation and to strengthen others all the while taking care that I do not stumble myself.  Loving the sinner but hating the sin is the lesson.

[Gal 6:1-3 NIV]

[1] Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

[2] Carry each others burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

[3] If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

So when it comes time to consider the concept of forgiveness, faith and mercy, Jesus asks me, what is it that I value most, self or Christ?  Will I bear the cross of justice or take up the mercy cross of Jesus Christ?  Jesus wants me now, today, just as I am, not tomorrow but right now, just as I am.  Let Him create in me and in you a new creature in faith, with mercy and a new life eternal.

Jesus said, “…Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.  [Mark 16:15-17 NIV]

Changes

Changes

I once had a job in which I was very happy.

It was that kind of job in which your mind is always active, always thinking.

Always thinking, always trying to improve what you have done and what you will do each day.

It created within the desire to build, to establish a mark, a lasting monument to the joy of doing and being.

One morning I awoke and found that all I had done was not!

Something had changed!

The rules had changed!

The purpose and needs all changed!

It was then, only then, did I realize that whatever I do is doomed to change.

It is only the timekeeper that has the time.

It is only He who does not change.

It is only what He builds that will stand when time is no more.

[9] What does the worker gain from his toil? [10] I have seen the burden God has laid on men. [11] He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. [12] I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. [13] That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil — this is the gift of God. [14] I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.

[Eccl 3:9-14 NIV]

Jesus and My Family!

Jesus and My Family!

In thinking of my family, I have given much thought to what is the central focus of my family. So often I hear comments about family focus being on a special vacation, home, hobby, sports activity, recreation… and the list goes on.

These things, although a vital part of a well-adapted family, should not become the central focus around which the family co-exists. What a tragedy life is when the focus of life is maintained upon a created object or activity rather than upon the Creator of life. Those temporary things of life will soon pass away but real life is eternal.

Just as Jesus Christ is to be my individual Lord of my life, I should focus in on Jesus as the central member of my whole family. In doing this, when tragedy comes in whatever form, my focus will always be to Jesus and, thereby, my source of strength and comfort will never fail.

Fellowship is not only a word describing our relationship with other Christians, it also applies to our family relationship with Jesus Christ.

“The Lord Protects”

“The Lord Protects”
Zephaniah

In a Wednesday night class, our Family considered the Body, the various members thereof and their functions.  Everyone present had positive contributions regarding the Church Body, commenting that we have various Spirit-given gifts that can be used for Unity.  Our text was I Corinthians 12, where Paul felt compelled to address an issue that the ancient church was experiencing in the First Century.  In our study, we admitted that it was a problem we wished not to entertain, but avoid by practicing godly attitudes and actions.

God has given Man a formula over and over again in His Word that would result in “protection” from evil.  Take a look at how the Holy Spirit worked through the words of Zephaniah.  Here God says that He will punish those who are complacent (1:12), as well as the superstitious (see 1:9). In 3:2, Zephaniah  describes those who are in line for future judgment from God – v2 obeys no one, accepts no correction, does not trust in the Lord; v4-5  prophets are arrogant, priests profane, the unrighteous know no shame; v7 still eager to act corruptly in all they did.  Zephaniah continues his description of faithless Israel and Judah with even more negative comments that describe their apostasy.

However, look at the description of the faithful. They seek the Lord (2:3), are humble, do what he commands, seek righteousness, seek humility.  Later Zephaniah reveals that our God is mighty to save (3:17); He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”

What would it be like to have My God sing over me and take delight in Me? What a thought! Yes, our Lord is our protection. It does our minds good to go back into the Old Testament and see how God viewed the actions of the leaders, both spiritual and secular, as well as the average man and woman.  He asked the same from them all, as He does from us today:  Seek God, walk humbly, obey our Lord, be righteous.  If we do, we can take great peace in the protection that is provided by our decision to live a Christian life.

The Prophets’ Words

The Prophets’ Words

Can words spoken almost 2700 years ago really have application to our modern time?  Before you answer, listen to these words and the meaning behind them.

“You were the beginning of sin.”  And, again, “You who hate good and love evil.” And, “Both hands are skilled in doing evil.”  And more, “But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord; they do not understand his plan.” And, finally, “He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

What a powerful prophet was Micah, the quoted words above all taken from the seven short chapters, words delivered to Israel and Judah, but just as applicable to the Church today.  In essence, the same journey that each of us Christians has taken to faith, is the same journey depicted in the quotes highlighted from the prophet Micah. We sinned (Micah 1:13), we did not have a proper understanding of good and evil (3:2), and in our sin, we were quite apt in performing evil (7:3).  This is the story of the Fall of Man, and yes, each of our falls.

How gentle, though, is the God of a believer. He is long-suffering, wanting each of us to return to Him.  What the world judges as good and honorable, God does not necessarily consider.  Quite simply, justice, mercy and being God-centered will keep us saved and safe in the arms of Jesus.

The Old Testament prophets have so much to say that is encouraging.  Take another look at Micah – you will be amazed at how current are his thoughts, all inspired, of course, by the Holy Spirit. Almost 700 years later, the Apostle Peter said, “Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.” I Peter 1:10ff and so the process of searching for salvation continues in the Twenty-first Century.

Search me, O God,

In my daily Bible reading I read and enjoyed with a new perspective Psalm 139.

I find that each time I read the scriptures something unique stands out. Perhaps this is evidence to me personally that as life changes one thing stays constant, the Word of God.

God’s word does not change but I change. I grow older but the Word of God always seems to appear new and fresh in my understanding.

In particular Psalm 139 reveals and answers so many questions that affect all people in a wonderful way. It declares God’s Omnipresent and Omniscient character.

God is all seeing, there is nothing hidden from Him and I can take comfort in this knowledge as I walk through the valley and mountain tops of life.

God is everywhere present, there is no place that I or you can find ourselves alone for He will be there.

God is all creative, everything that is or ever was has been designed and formed by Him as the master designer and builder.

God is all caring and loving. He works and offers me the best of the best.

God is all Holy and I can trust His Holiness to protect and provide me with eternal comfort. A comfort that is not shaken by the troubles of living in this world.

My response to My God should be an inward look and self inspection.

Search me, O God, …and lead me in the everlasting way.

Freedom and July 4th

Freedom!

This article has meaning for Americans, but especially for Christians anywhere because of the true meaning of Freedom.

On July 4th America will celebrate a birthday of Independence, our freedom. Our freedom as a country is very important. I wonder as Americans, how often do we reflect on our gift of freedom? Yes, freedom is a gift, a gift from God for as long as we live in His righteousness.

I thank God daily that I was born an American! America is to me the “Greatest Country” in the world. It is great because it is free. It is the country where peoples from many backgrounds have the same blessings shared no where else. Many do not believe in God. But, I believe we are blessed because many more people in America do believe and therefore God blesses America.

There is much about us that endangers out freedom. But perhaps the greatest threat is apathy and indifference to sin. This is a blindness that leads to destruction.
(Proverbs 14:34) Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. (NIV)

Jesus dealt with this same kind of condition when He spoke of what true freedom is and where it is. (John 8:30-36) Even as he spoke, many put their faith in him. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him; “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (NIV)

Our freedom as a country is only for a season, but eternal freedom that really counts is found in Jesus Christ. As Christians, we can insure freedom in our country first by making the people truly free and thereby abolishing the affects of sin upon our freedom as a country.

As a Christian reflect upon your freedom. We need to restore within each of us the desire to make men truly free. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

“You can tell when you are on
the right road – it’s an upgrade.”
